Bud and Claudia McCoy of El Dorado will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary with an open house reception from 2- 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at the El Dorado Depot, 340 N. Main.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend this special occasion hosted by their three children, spouses and their families, Steve and Darla Deaton; Marcy and Darin DeWitt and Thad and Gina McCoy.
Carmond V. “Bud” McCoy, Jr. and Claudia Sue Wilson were married on July 29, 1962 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Shortly after their wedding Bud enlisted in the US Air Force, taking them to San Antonio, Texas for basic training, then Amarillo, Texas for military technical training, after training they were transferred to Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, California.
While in California far away from family and friends their first daughter, Darla was born.
After 2 years Bud got transferred to serve in the Philippines so Claudia and Darla moved back to Coffeyville, Ks.
After serving in the military they made their home in Cherryvale, Ks. when their second Daughter, Marcy was born.
While there he helped with the family greenhouse and floral business. After one year in Cherryvale they decided the floral business was not for them and moved to the Winfield and Wichita area before making their home in El Dorado, where their third child a son, Thad was born.
Bud worked for Montgomery Wards and El Dorado Times before going to work for the El Dorado Post Office. He started out delivering mail, than sorted the mail, moving up to window clerk, where he retired in 2002 after 30 years of service for the government.
Claudia was a homemaker to their three children, but as the children got older she decided to attend BCCC to get her Registered Nurse license.
She was employed with Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, as a surgical floor RN moving up to charge nurse then patient care coordinator, working the 3-11 shift her entire career. She retired one year after Bud in 2003 after 23 years of caring for others. Before retiring they were able to enjoy travels stateside and abroad.
Bud and Claudia are now enjoying retirement together at home, when you see one, you usually will see the other.
Bud enjoyed playing golf until his back surgeries and Claudia loves scrapbooking their travels and family. They both enjoy spending time with all their family which include daughter, Darla (Steve) Deaton of El Dorado, daughter, Marcy (Darin) DeWitt of Oklahoma City and son, Thad (Gina) of Kemah, Texas.
The couple also has eight grandchildren, Derek Deaton, Mallory (Tyler) Goodrich all of El Dorado; Shyanna and Shelbie DeWitt both of Oklahoma City, Aaron Sheeley of El Dorado, Chris McCoy of Overland Park, Drew and Caleb McCoy both of Kemah, Texas; as well as three great grandchildren, Owen, Kaidence and Brett Goodrich.
