  • The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is sporting a new look on one of its vehicles.

After many years without one, the Sheriff’s Office has a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) car again.

A 2006 Dodge Magnum recently received some graphic artwork to make it more noticeable to kids as the D.A.R.E. car. Graphic Concepts, Inc. in El Dorado designed and completed the artwork on it on Aug. 1 when it officially rolled out as the D.A.R.E. car.

In addition to the completion of the car, Deputy Curtis Cox also recently completed D.A.R.E. officer training in Pierre, S.D.

Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet said he is pleased to see the reinstating of the program is going as planned. It will be reinstated in Butler County schools this fall.

“Our youth are our future and we need to educate them on how to make good choices in life when it comes to drugs,” Herzet said. “The D.A.R.E. program fulfills this need and is designed to be taught by law enforcement officers.”

Herzet also thanked Youth Leadership Butler for their efforts to get this program back into schools, as well as the citizens and businesses of Butler County for their donations to make it possible to bring it back.

“Without their generous donations, this would not have been possible,” Herzet said.

They will start the program at El Dorado and Circle schools in September and add Flinthills and Remington the second semester. Bluestem, Rose Hill and Douglass already have their own programs.
