Moran tours HollyFrontier Refinery during El Dorado stop
- Sen. Jerry Moran made a stop in El Dorado Wednesday morning to take a tour of the HollyFrontier Refinery.
Sen. Jerry Moran made a stop in El Dorado Wednesday morning to take a tour of the HollyFrontier Refinery.
He was in the area, visiting businesses in Cottonwood Falls and Newton Tuesday, then making a couple of stops in Wichita that evening.
He had asked what he should tour in El Dorado that has the biggest impact on the area and he was told the refinery.
“For the last several weeks I have been focusing on communities I didn’t represent as a House member,” he said.
He wanted to see what they have to offer.
Moran had served in the House of Representatives for 14 years, representing the western two-thirds of the state, before being elected to the Senate.
HollyFrontier is one of three refineries in the state and is the largest.
This one has an advantage because it is located at a big pipeline hub, railroad spur and has plenty of water available because of the lake.
All of the products created at the refinery are shipped north, as well as some northwest and northeast.
Moran said he wanted to get acquainted in case there are any issues he can help with in Washington, D.C.
Moran got to take a tour of the plant, as well as learn about some of the processes they use in refining and improvements that have been made at the refinery.
“We’re glad you’re here,” Moran told Goodmanson. “We’re glad you’re in Kansas.”
