Now that the Backstreets.com Photographers for Sandy Relief contest has closed — winners are slated to be announced tomorrow, and I have my fingers crossed (come on, help a blogger out!) — you’ll need somewhere else to direct your charitable efforts. How about by downloading “All Alone on Christmas” by The Midtown Men, with all proceeds going to the Red Cross to aid the relief effort?
The group is made up of original cast members from the Broadway smash Jersey Boys, and the song is of course a Steven Van Zandt original — you probably recall Darlene Love’s version (backed by the E Street Band) from the Home Alone 2 soundtrack, but this is a new arrangement by the man himself. From the release:
Not only did Stevie create a new arrangement of this classic holiday tune for THE MIDTOWN MEN, but he also plays guitar on the single with musicians from the E Street Band. Truly a remarkable collaboration.
“Sometimes the best projects are the ones that are the most unlikely,” says Steven Van Zandt when speaking about working with The Midtown Men. “And quite often, like this one, they turn out to be the most fun. So here it is. And with this record, I’m sure you’ll agree that they have conquered the recording studio the same way they took Broadway. The Midtown Men have arrived.”
Thus spoketh Stevie, who apparently needed another project to occupy the 18 minutes a day he had previously spent sleeping. So don’t be a Scrooge — get over to iTunes and download the track already.
