Vera L. Brice, 78, passed away Sunday in Wichita. The celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, El Dorado.
Vera was born Nov. 21, 1934 in Hamilton, Kan., the daughter of Warham Robert and Viola Mae (Chamberlain) Short. She attended school and graduated from high school in Hamilton, then received her BA from Emporia State teachers College. Vera was united in marriage to Raymond Clarence Brice on Nov. 23, 1955 in Hamilton. She was a retired elementary teacher, teaching at El Dorado, Towanda, Burns and Melvern. Vera was a member of the NEA and Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, painting, camping, square dancing, traveling, fishing (especially Bass), watching birds and nature and hosting exchange students.
Vera is survived by her son, James Kyle Brice of El Dorado; daughters, Melodee Ray Armfield of Augusta and Susan Annette Unruh of El Dorado; brother, Larry Short of Hamilton; sister, Linda Hogan of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband Raymond Clarence Brice, daughter (Annie) Vera Dyann Smith one brother (Apple) Warham Short, Jr., and a sister Marjorie Smith. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with Trinity United Methodist Church. Contribution may be left with Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.
