Two area artists have their work on display at the SouthWind Gallery in their newest exhibit, which opens Friday.
Mary Binford Miller and Jim Clements each have paintings that were accepted into the show.
"I'm just really glad to be part of it," Binford Miller said. "I'm just always glad to be able to show my work. They area very fine gallery. They are one of the best galleries in Kansas."
Clements also is looking forward to the show.
“It’s an honor to be included with who I believe are some of the best artists in the state,” he said.
The show is titled "Synchronicity: New works by members of the Kansas Academy of Oil Painters and the Wichita Women Artists Invitational."
The two art groups have come together for this juried competition. The two-dimensional works include a broad range of style and subject matter and the show includes nearly 70 pieces.
"It's kind of an eclectic show with everything from oil to wax resist to watercolors," said Binford Miller, who also is president of the KAOP.
Binford Miller has two oil paintings in the show. One is of a Flint Hills sunrise which she saw out her back door, just outside of El Dorado with hay bales and a bright pink sky.
The other is a painting of some buffalo from a nearby herd.
Clements has three pieces in the show, all oils as well.
His include a portrait titled "Sarah," "The Violin Song" and "The Trapper."
“SouthWind is a first-rate gallery,” Clements said. “It’s always exciting to see my work displayed in a venue like this.”
Binford Miller encourages everyone to attend reception or stop by the show some time.
"These particular people are fabulous for having accepted our groups into the show because most of the time they show people from Eastern Kansas, so I think we are very fortunate," she said. "We've been wanting to get exposure in the eastern part of Kansas. This is a good way to show the really fine art from Central Kansas.
"We'd sure like folks from this area of the state to come up there and support us if they have the chance."
The show will kick off with with an artists reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the gallery, located at 3074 SW 29th in Topeka. This is part of Topeka's First Friday Art Walk event. The exhibit runs through July 14.
