Children and adults learned a little more about their state during the Kansas Day Birthday Bash held at the Butler County History Center Saturday.

The event started a few years ago when it was decided they should have a free day at the museum.

Lisa Cooley, curator of education, added some crafts for the kids and the event has continued to grow each year.

This year, visitors could take part in a number of activities, one of which was an “I Spy Kansas” scavenger hunt. They had a list of Kansas-related items to find in the exhibits.

There also were make-it and take-it crafts and wheat weaving demonstrations, as well as spinning demonstrations.

They also had a birthday cake for the celebration.

Wrapping up the day’s events was guest speaker Beverley Olson Buller, author of “From Emporia: The Story of William Allen White.”

The history center also has been doing presentations at the elementary schools and will be giving tours to preschoolers in celebration of Kansas Day.
