Hon. John E. Sanders, chief judge of the 13th Judicial District, will sit with the state Supreme Court Friday to hear appeals in four matters on the Court’s docket.

The Supreme Court appointed Sanders to join them in place of Chief Justice Robert E. Davis, who will be on medical leave then.  Sanders is currently completing his 24th year as a district judge.

He will hear oral arguments in a civil case and three attorney disciplinary proceedings Friday and then participate in the high court deliberations and opinion drafting.

He graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 1969 and moved to Eureka that year.

He was in the private practice of law in Eureka for 16 years, serving two terms as Greenwood County attorney.

He was appointed district judge in 1986 by former Gov. John Carlin to succeed Judge J. Patrick Brazil who had been appointed to the Kansas Court of Appeals.

Sanders is a member of the Kansas District Judges Association and has served on the Kansas Dispute Resolution Advisory Council.
