Mary McCaslin will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Iron Horse Concert Hall.
McCaslin represents an unbroken link between traditional American folksingers and today’s “new folk” singer-songwriters. She is known for her songs about the West, its landscape and its outlaws, as well as her insightful songs about relationships.
A pioneer of open tunings on fingerpicked guitar, she also plays “clawhammer” banjo using it to great and unique effect on such unlikely songs as “Blackbird” and “Pinball Wizard.” She also is known for her haunting renditions of pop standards and rock classics, such as “Ghost Riders In the Sky,” “The Wayward Wind,” the Beatles’ “Things We Said Today” and the Supremes’ “My World Is Empty.”
Her songs have been recorded by Tom Russell, Bill Staines, Chris Williamson, David Bromberg, Kate Wolf, Stan Rogers and more.
The concert is hosted by the Flinthills Music Guild. The Iron Horse is located at 315 S. Main, enter through Circle Gallery. Tickets are $12. For more information, call 321-6348.
