Teams are beginning to gear up for the seventh annual "Great Escape" bicycle tour, which will be held May 2 at the El Dorado Correctional Facility.

This event has been held annually in support of the Spiritual Life Center being built at the El Dorado Correctional Facility.

The event is a 25-, 50- or 80-mile bicycle road tour in the Flint Hills. It includes a t-shirt, lunch for the 50- and 80-mile riders and massages after the ride provided by the Butler Community College massage therapy class. Check-in time is 7 a.m.

Pre-registration must be postmarked by April 15 to guarantee a t-shirt. Tour fees include rest stops and sag service and are $15 for 25 miles and $25 for the 50 and 80 mile rides, with the late fee after April 20 being $30. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

More information about the project and fund raiser sign up brochure can be obtained at ckpm.org. Brochures can also be picked up at the YMCA.

The Spiritual Life Center is supported by Central Kansas Prison Ministries and is an 11,500-square-foot Worship Spiritual Life Center Chapel with a 300-seat auditorium.

It also will provide space for a large chapel area, multipurpose room, six classrooms, library, two chaplains’ offices and conference room.

The purpose of the center is to reduce returns to prison and provide hope and meaning in the lives of inmates.

The center is being constructed using private funding, with the total cost projected at $1,000,000.

The center will be dedicated on May 4.
