YMCA staff members and Major Gifts Committee members were working to raise $125,000 for this year's Strong Kids Campaign.
They achieved that and even went a little above, raising a total of $126,191.
They collected 1,044 total gifts from businesses and community members to support the program.
That topped last year's total of $121,723.
"It was just great that we got so much support from all of our members, the city and the people who made their contribution," said Joyce Yarnall, Strong Kids administrator. "It's great we have such a wonderful community."
It also was a relief for them to make their goal, with the situation of the economy right now.
The money goes to help support such programs as the Splash Program, which provides free swimming lessons for six weeks to all second graders in USD 490.
Other funds go to help offset the costs of various programs the Y offers, with all of the money raised by this branch staying in El Dorado.
The Y also offers financial aid to members.
"It will help all of the programs," Yarnall said. "With the economy the way it is, we are able to help so many more people be able to join the Y that might not be able to join it otherwise without the financial assistance."
