El Dorado’s OK Kansas Kids won first place overall for site quality during the Kansas Recreation and Parks Conference Jan. 28.
“We had such a great amount of community support,” said Dustin Ward, El Dorado State Park ranger.
El Dorado’s event won the grand prize of $400 to put toward next year’s celebration.
Fifty-three parks and city locations were in the running for the award.
The El Dorado event had more than 40 local businesses and organizations that donated and supported the event, winning it the top prize.
The wide variety of activities also swayed the judges to award El Dorado the top prize.
“Thank you to all those who helped support this event on a yearly basis,” said Ward. “Without you this would not have been possible.”
