Nabholz Construction will serve as the construction manager at-risk after the USD 490 Board of Education voted to move ahead with negotiating a contract with them during a special meeting Monday evening.
The firm is located in Lenexa and its most current project is in Independence where the school district is redoing the middle school, building a new elementary school and doing some work at the high school.
“We believe the best fit in terms of moving forward with the best value is Nabholz,” said Norm Wilks, director of fiscal utilities.
The person the district would be working with also is an architect, so he brings additional experience.
“We really did have some good companies,” Wilks said.
BOE member Jim Waugh made a motion to negotiate a contract with Nabholz, which was approved 7-0.
The architects tentatively have a meeting set with Nabholz for Thursday to begin moving foward.
In other business, the school board:
• approved, 7-0, to pay for a Facilitation Document to be developed for the stadium project.
“It’s the piece we need for you to feel you have your ducks in a row so you can make some decisions,” said Superintendent Sue Givens.
The document will tell each entity’s financial commitment, project cost, debt service options and a timeline. The cost will be $3,395, which will come from the facilities services budget.
