El Dorado Middle School Principal Mike Browne reported to Board of Education members on Project Lead the Way.
Lead the Way is a new science/engineering curriculum the school implemented this fall.
Seventy-eight students have taken the nine-week course so far and EMS Teacher Richard
Garbee also shared his thoughts and experience on the project.
Garbee stated that the Lead the Way class emphasizes pre-engineering and problem-solving skills.
The program also utilizes math skills.
EMS students Alexx Wranosky and Daniel Rittle presented their projects from class using PowerPoint and Autodesk Inventor software.
Wranosky shared a career presentation she had created during the course, which investigated school, salary and availability for an aerospace engineer position.
Rittle composed parts on Autodesk and then assembled the parts as board members viewed how the software was beneficial to student experience.
The software provides experience with templates, blue prints and dimensions.
Rittle created a mechanical arm during the course, which he also presented to the board.
Garbee emphasized the key components of success in his class and beyond are the ability to learn new things, problem solving abilities and getting along with other.
"It's been awesome," said Garbee.
He added that many of the eighth grade students have been mentoring younger pupils in the software.
