El Dorado High School will be inviting the public to take a look at their new classroom wing Sunday.
An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.
School officials are excited about the opportunity to show off their new building.
“I think the public needs to remember that this building is owned by the taxpayers,” said Superintendent Sue Givens. “I hope they can come in and have as much pride in it as we do. I think they will be so impressed with the quality of what has been accomplished.”
People can park in one of the west parking lots and enter the new wing through the south door on the west side (by the media center).
There will be no food or drink because they are in the classroom area, Givens said.
“We apologize in advance,” she said.
Students moved into the new building after Spring Break.
Givens said they made their move just in time. Because of the rain right before they moved, they had to drill holes in the floor of the commons to drain out the water because it was so deep they couldn’t get the dollies through.
Demolition of the old building will begin on Monday.
This is the first phase of the EHS renovation/new construction project.
“It is just awesome,” Givens said of the new wing. “It is so different.”
The other half will be completed at the end of next year, then they will have a more formal dedication of the building.
In addition to the open house, there will be an auction beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.
While the district has put a lot in storage for the move to the auditorium, commons and office areas in the next phase, as well as some for the start-up of the new charter schools, there are some things left that Givens said people may want for some garage storage.
