USD 490 elementary students completed summer school Thursday with a variety of activities.
In one class, they were learning about insects and reading books on the topic.
The students had been getting involved by bringing in bugs and one student brought in frogs Thursday.
They also made their own bug out of bananas, peanut butter, grapes and Chinese noodles.
In another session, they were conducting scientific experiments.
They followed the scientific process to find out what would happen when a penny was put in vinegar and salt.
The students came up with several hypotheses, including that they could melt, get more shiny and remove the pictures from them.
The third step was to get their materials, which included two cups and a spoon. Salt was placed in one cup and vinegar in the other.
For the procedure, they mixed the ingredients together, added a penny and stirred.
They also looked at the data and made a conclusion.
They found the pennies did get shinier after being in the solution.
