The El Dorado Youth Commission presented their annual report to the El Dorado City Commission May 18.

Lee Huff, Youth Commission president, talked about their activities over the past school year.
Among their activities was sponsoring the Prairie Port Flea Market for the third year, from which they earned a little over $600 in profits to be used for projects throughout the year.
They also set up a game booth at the Walnut River Festival, then at the end of October gave out treats for Trick or Treat Down the Street.

In addition, two commissioners helped Santa hand out presents at the city Christmas party.

At their meetings, they had many visits from city staff to discuss a variety of topics. Among them was the city’s comprehensive plan, the new trash system, a spray park and the North Main drainage culvert.

Looking to next year, they have plans for another Prairie Port Flea Market, which will be moved to an area in front of the tennis courts.

They also are working on developing a Web site for the Youth Commission.

“We’re hoping we can have the Web site here soon,” Huff said, adding that they would come back in the fall to present that to the City Commission.

He also wanted to thank the commission.

“We want to thank the City Commission for listening to the voice of its young people and giving youth an avenue to learn about government through the Youth Commission,” he said, adding a special thanks to Commissioner David Chapin, who is the Youth Commission liaison.
