The Tomorrow's Technician – Chicago Pneumatic School of the Year competition is in full swing and finalists around the country were recently announced.
Butler Community College has made the cut for second level of competition.
It was also announced competitors will have an extra week to prepare materials for the judges.
Bulter Board of Trustee members recognized the department’s efforts during the March meeting and wished the faculty and students luck in the competition.
More than 130 entrants submitted to be nominated, which included more than 60 different high schools, technical schools and colleges.
The selected schools are scheduled to move on to the second round.
Representing the Northwest region are: Arapohoe Community College, Littleton, Colo.; College of Eastern Utah, Price, Utah; Ramona High School, Ramona, Calif.; Butler Community College, El Dorado; and Smoky Hill High School, Smoky Hill, Colo.
Southeast participants include: Gwinnett Technical College, Lawrenceville, Ga.; Chipola College, Marianna, Fla.; Muscle Shoals Center for Technology, Muscle Shoals, Ala.; Piedmont Technical College, Greenwood, S.C,; and Haney Technical Center and High School, Panama City, Fla.
For the Northwest area Renton Technical College, Renton, Wash.; Sabin-Schellenberg Professional Technology Center, Milwaukie, Ore.; Shoreline Community College, Seattle, Wash.; Western Wyoming Community College, Rock Springs, Wyo.; and Estacada High School, Estacada, Ore., will be representing.
Northeast participants will include North Montco Technical Career Center, Landsdale, Pa.; Southern Illinois University (Automotive Technology), Carbondale, Ill.; Automotive Training Center, Exton, Pa.; Ranken Technical Collage, St. Louis, Mo.; Ohio Technical College, Cleveland, Ohio; and Old Bridge High School, Matawan, N.J.
In the second phase of competition, instructors were required to provide detailed information about the automotive program housed at the institution they are representing.
The judges were also asking for a letter of recommendation from a current student, a parent of an automotive student and the school’s principal or director/administrator.
March 7 was the deadline for the second round applicants and the winning school will be announced in April.
First place will bring $10,000 in pneumatic tools for the winning institution and several celebrities are planned for visits.
Three runner-up schools will also be selected from the remaining regions. An added bonus will be an article on the winning school will be featured in the May issue of Tomorrow’s Technician.
