A variety of artwork is on display at the Coutts Museum of Art as part of the Butler County high school and college exhibit.

A reception was held Saturday for parents and their students to come in and view the art.

Among those with work on display was El Dorado High School senior Kate Green.

She had a charcoal drawing titled “Lullaby” on display.

“It was for my friend,” she said of her inspiration for the piece. “She had a baby and I thought she would like it.”

This is the second time she has had a piece in this exhibit, with the first being during her sophomore year.

“I was pretty excited,” she said of when she found out her art had been selected. “It’s nice to be able to do this as a senior.”

She enjoys art.

“I like to be able to create different things,” she said.

She plans to pursue art next year at Butler Community College.

Grace Page, a sophomore at Butler, also had art on exhibit.

She had a piece titled “Tim3” which was ink on bristol board.

“Our assignment was to work with different lines, so I found a picture of my fiance and did three different filters,” she explained.

Page was pleased with the outcome.

“I liked seeing the three different pictures together,” she said.

She is an art major at Butler and has plans to attend Wichita State University next year to go into art education.

“I just like showing people the way I see things,” she said.

Several winners were selected by Butler art instructor Valerie Haring.

First place awards were given to: Green, “Lullaby,” charcoal; Christiana Chastain, Andover Central High School (ACHS) senior, “Hidden Giving,” mixed media; Curtis Beard, Rose Hill High School (RHS) senior, “Tired Soul,” acrylic; Alivia Hladky, ACHS senior, “Forbidden Beginnings,” drawing; Minja Wiede, RHS senior, “Dana,” lead; Shelby Welch, RHS junior, “Lost in a Story,” photo; Rachael Rowan, ACHS junior, “Chaos,” pin and ink; Ryan Mounts, RHS senior, “I-cy,” printmaking; Roseanna Hansen, Circle High School (CHS) senior, “Imagination,” oil pastel; Blake Gumeringer, Andover High School (AHS) junior, “For the Object of My Affection,” Raku ceramics; and Jenny Nutsch, RHS junior, “Where Else Are They Gonna Live,” watercolor.
