El Dorado, Kan. -

During their July 14 board meeting, USD 490 Board of Education discussed the petty cash funds.

The BOE determined the creation of a petty cash fund was an efficient method to pay expenses for the district's needs.

Kansas law authorizes the establishment of a petty cash fund; this fund is designated as the Central Office Building Petty Cash fund.

Its purpose is to receive and expend funds for district expenditures in emergency situations.

The fund totals $1,000.

The director of budget will administer the funds and also keep a record of all receipts and expenditures and prepare, file and balance the fund at the end of each month and at the end of each academic year.

This fund will not be loaned or advanced against the salary of any employee.

The board also established a special education petty cash fund, which totals $1,500.

Multiple petty cash limits were established which include the central office fund of $1,000, a high school fund for $1,000, a middle school fund which totals $500 and the special education fund for $1,500.

These funds are for emergency use only, which would include paying substitute referees.
