Citizens who don't remove their trash carts from the curb within 24 hours will face a fine beginning April 1.

Questions regarding the fining of those not complying with the rules for the new trash carts were discussed at the El Dorado City Commission meeting Monday evening.

Mayor Tom McKibban said he had heard from residents who were concerned their neighbors were not removing the carts from the curb.

Brad Meyer, assistant public works director, said they had begun tagging the carts, but didn't know when they would start fining them.

Commissioner David Chapin suggested now that they are out of winter and the snow and ice, they begin fining April 1.

Commissioners Shane Krause and Linda Clark thought they should start right away.

McKibban agreed with the April 1 deadline, as did Commissioner Nick Badwey.

In addition to discussing the fines, McKibban asked about how the new system had affected recycling efforts.

Meyer said they are sill averaging 100 tons a month, which is what they have seen for some time.
