Head techie Doug Jensen update USD 490 Board of Education members Monday on the status of technology in the district.

He informed members that the Tech Cafe is complete.

He added that computers throughout the district are brought in for analysis annually.

Jensen also mentioned the 1:1 initiative program at EHS and its successful update for ninth and 10th grades.

The library card catalog for the district is now also update to an online version for easy access.

Destination labs have been created and curriculum added and of course the district’s Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) is off to a great beginning.

Jensen was excited to share the progress of the IDL program and the addition of two systems.

The program has a total of four systems now with one located at the middle school, one at the high school and two mobile units.

The program also had the availability of a class in Chinese.

Jensen also said the video projector projects are complete with installations in all locations.

The use of Wii remotes has also been included and is a more fiscal conservative alternative to traditional remotes with interactive white boards.

Seventy have been installed throughout K-8 classes.

Project Lead the Way has been implemented in the middle school with students learning CAD software.

This program was installed to promote engineering for youth.

The high school’s video productions classroom and studio is also complete, and Jensen explained to members the district is directly involved with 360ElDorado, having a link to the district on the site.

Wiki training has been taking place.

“More teachers are getting into that,” said Jensen.

A new automated employee attendance monitoring system has also been installed.

The district is also introducing Schools Interoperability Framework, Systems Interoperability Framework (SIF). SIF is a data sharing open specification for academic institutions from kindergarten through 12th grade (K-12).

Andover schools were the first to try SIF and El Dorado will be second in the state.
Staff have also been attending training courses for technology.

“Our focus should be on kids,” said Jensen. “Thanks for your support.”
