El Dorado, Kan. - Though it was Kathy Patrick and her father Rick who set out on a fishing trip this morning at Riverside Park near the Walnut River, it was Cooke Towing that ended up with the biggest catch when a 1994 Chrysler Sebring made a splash into the river.
The car – owned by Rick’s girlfriend – was parked at the side of the river with the doors locked when it slipped out of gear and began to roll toward the river. Unable to stop the vehicle, they watched as it took a dip.
“You can’t stop a car rolling down the hill,” said Kathy.
The Sebring was pulled downstream toward the river’s waterfall before becoming snagged on the edge of the dam beneath the overpass bridge.
Police were contacted just before 8 a.m. An emergency rescue crew stood by as Cooke Towing employees fished the car from the river – finally dragging the soggy, muddy vehicle onto a truck about 9:15.
