Due to an oversight, the Butler County Jail has been out of compliance with a state statute that requires county detention facilities to be located with the city limits of the county seat.
On Tuesday, the Butler County commissioners fixed the problem by approving an agreement that allows the city of El Dorado to island annex the jail.
“We’re just crossing a ‘t’ and dotting an ‘i,’” said County Administrator Will Johnson. “There is no advantage or disadvantage, this just complies with state requirements.”
In other business this week, the commission:
• discussed the 2010 budgets of outside agencies, including Tour Butler, SCARF, Flint Hills Services, soil conservation and Leadership Butler.
• approved a two-month extension of a contract with Manatron.
• appointed Beverly McWilliams to the Flint Hills Services board.
• approved the FY 2010 Area Plan as presented by representatives of the Central Plains Area Agency on Aging.
• approved the payment of a prorated maintenance agreement for July 2008 through January 2010.
• discussed the 2010 budget for MIDKAP.
• approved a contract with PVD for appraisal services.
