While Butler Community College students were whiling away the remaining few hours of finals week and this semester, the employees were being treated to a tasty dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

The college staff was enjoying the annual Employee Holiday Luncheon, a last-chance get-together before the close of 2007 and a nearly five-week break from students.

“It’s a great way to celebrate the end to a successful semester and to celebrate the spirit of the season,” said Butler President Jackie Vietti. “Beyond that, our faculty and staff just do such a great job working with our students, that it’s also a way to express our appreciation to them for all their hard work.”

In addition to the good eats, Butler employees were also encouraged to bring school supplies to be donated to county students in need.

“It’s great that the college does this for the employees as a holiday thing,” said Sam Crowl, Butler marketing. “We in turn use it to help the community by bring together all the school supplies. That’s what we’re all about.”

The meal was supplied by Great Western Dining, the company that staffs the school’s cafeteria.

Crowl said the luncheon resulted in “good conversation and good meat.”

“People are so busy at Butler working with students that they don’t often have the luxury of sitting down to an extended meal, so this is something we hope they think is special,” Vietti said.
