At their Monday meeting, Butler County Commissioners discussed the county's financial policies with Finance Director Brandon Kauffman.

The purpose of the discussion was to explore policies/guidelines that would provide useful framework, assist with long range planning, give staff guidance on how to develop budgets and foster sound financial practice.

The focal point of the discussion was expenditure polices, which included borrowing and financing.
In other business, the commission:

• approved a lease agreement with Verizon Wireless for use of the land and tower regarding upgrades to the countywide emergency communications system.

• approved the KTA lease agreement regarding upgrades to the countywide emergency communications system.

• received and opened bids for tandem axle dump trucks for the Highway Division of the Public Works Department.

• approved resolutions to establish regulatory traffic control signs on certain roads in Richland Township relating to the construction work on S.W. 210th Street.

• authorized the county engineer to obtain a proposal for engineering services for bituminous surfacing work on county roads in Whitewater.

• authorized the county engineer to obtain a proposal for engineering services to relocate a sewer line related to the city of Augusta levee project.

• authorized the Noxious Weed Department to go out for bids for chemicals and two four-wheelers.

• approved the purchase of two brine spray units for the Public Works Department in the amount of $20,656.

• addressed concerns from Andover and Augusta that the county might be trying to force PSAP consolidation. The commissioners assured the concerned parties consolidation is not necessarily imminent.
The commissioners are merely gathering information about the way emergency communications work at this time.
