A large crowd was in attendance at the Butler County History Center Saturday afternoon to see the World War II History Center’s reenactment of a Nov. 7, 1944 battle known as Operation Cobra.
The sound of gun fire echoed through East El Dorado and those attending were enthralled by the strategies and characters portrayed.
The performance featured authentic guns with blank bullets.
The battle featured, “The Breakout,” was set in 1944 France where American troops were liberating a small town from German occupation.
The battle was conducted primarily with infantry and took place several weeks following the D-Day landings.
The reenactment took onlookers into a different world with the adrenaline rush of an attack on German troops.
The crowd cheered U.S. soldiers as the battle progressed and finished with the surrender of the German line.
