Butler County 4-H’ers took a walk “on the green carpet” Saturday evening during the 2009 Butler County 4-H Achievement Night banquet and awards presentation.

Following dinner, the awards began with several special recognitions and awards.

“This evening I would like to congratulate all the 4-H’ers on their hard work this year,” said Melissa Thimesch, 4-H Youth Development Agent for K-State Research and Extension - Butler County, also thanking the parents and leaders.

The first to be recognized were the Family and Consumer Science (FACS) team members who took part in the FACS judging competition.

“4-Hers are challenged to consider a wide variety of topics,” said Barb Roths, coordinator of FACS judging. “They make sound choices by comparing circumstances.”

FACS teams from Butler County went to the State Fair this year.

The intermediate team of Christine Conway, Jenna Rose, Danielle Routh and Katlyn Stahl placed 15th.

Lois Johnson, Lydia Newby and Joe Pherigo placed first overall at the State Fair. In addition, Claassen placed first with her individual score and received a $250 scholarship.

“You all did well and we are proud of you,” Roths said. “You represented Butler County so well this year.”
Photography judging teams also placed at the State Fair.

The senior photography team of Amanda Crisler, Ashley Crisler, Evan Eisenbarth and Joe Pherigo placed 17th, and the intermediate team of Rachel Crook, Amanda Hinnen, Tara Kemp and Trevor Kemp placed sixth.

The horticulture judging team of Ashley Crisler, Faith Hadley, Lucas Hadley and Joe Pherigo attended the fair as well, but did not place.

Next, Thimesch recognized the 4-H ambassadors.

“The Butler County 4-H ambassadors are a great group to work at the events and spread the 4-H message,” she said.

There were four new ambassadors recognized – Erin Connell, Faith Hadley, Danielle Routh and Amy Varner.

Special awards also were given out.

The first was the 4-H Key Award. This award recognizes citizenship and leadership to community. The award went to Lucas Hadley, with Heartland (HRT) 4-H.

The next award was the “I Dare You” Award, for which the reci
pient receives a book with stories encouraging them to achieve their highest potential. This year’s winners were Danyel Anglemyer, with Lily Lake (LL), and Lucas Hadley.

The Kiwanis Junior Leadership Award was next. This is to someone who provides outstanding leadership for the club and community. Lois Johnson, with El Dorado Boosters (EDB), received this award.
