“What’s a pirate’s favorite letter in the alphabet?” asked Brianne Dennis, with the Bradford Memorial Library Children’s Department.
“R!” responded a crowd of children.
Shiver me timbers, National Talk Like a Pirate Day is this Saturday and Bradford Memorial Library celebrated with children Tuesday afternoon.
Dennis hosted the event that included books, bounty, treasure chests and eye patches.
Children heard “How I Became a Pirate” by Belinda Long to begin the celebration.
Next, kids got to make up their very own pirate names. Dennis chose “Blue Eye Bonnie.”
“Pin the Patch on the Pirate” was a game played and children were blindfolded, spun once and directed toward a pirate poster on the wall to pin an eye patch on the right eye.
One more book was read, “Black Beard Pirates,” and it was a crowd pleaser.
For a final activity, children got to build their own treasure chests out of shoe boxes and construction paper.
Dennis showed the group how to construct the chest and the kids also worked on pirate word searches and coloring sheets.
