Butler Community College hosted their annual Showchoir Festival, with the theme "The Road" last week.

High schools from around the area were on the Butler campus learning new dance moves and performance tips.

The day began at 7 a.m. for some schools, with each of the schools having their own performance time throughout the day. A mass dress rehearsal was held at the end of the day in preparation for their evening performance, which the Butler Headliners opened.

This year's festival clinician was Stephen Todd, originally from Mitchell, S.D., who was a four-year member of the Friend de Coup, the South Dakota All-State Honors Choirs. He has a bachelor of fine art degree in musical theatre and a minor in dance from Millikin University.

Todd has stared in many regional theaters around the country in shows such as "Chicago," "Footloose," "Tianic," "Forever Plaid" and "Pippin." He also was featured on the Broadway National Tour of "Kiss Me, Kate," and made his New York City debut in the reading of the new musical "M. Claudel."

Among the school groups participating were El Dorado High School Encore, Remington High School Singers, Bluestem High School Madrigals, Augusta High School Take 2, Andover Central High School New Generation and Circle High School Madrigals.

From Butler, the Headliners, Smorgaschords and Notables also took part in the event.
