Butler Community College wants the public to get ready for a free day of learning and activities.
On March 27, Butler’s Free College Class Day will provide a day of fun and inspiration for the community.
Life-long learning has always been a deep-rooted philosophy of Butler and with a stellar line up of free one- or two-hour classes – including starting a business, digital photography, Facebook & Twitter, healthy living, kid classes and more – Butler hopes to demonstrate that learning takes place everyday in many ways.
After a successful outing last year – featuring more than 130 classes and catering to nearly 1,300 enrollments – Butler is excited to launch the sequel to this powerful event. And this year’s follow-up includes classes not only at Butler’s El Dorado and Andover campuses, but also at its Council Grove and Marion sites.
This year’s special guest instructors include Carrie Rengers, The Wichita Eagle; Jared Brickman, ROKICT!; and cartoonist/illustrator Michael Kline.
“People really enjoyed the event last year, and I think this year’s will offer even more variety and excitement,” said Cindy Miles, director of campus and community relations at Butler. “We’re building off the enthusiasm and feedback we received from participants last year.”
Miles said Free College Class Day served as an awareness tool for the college, as well. Some attended the free classes who had never been on a Butler campus before and others were inspired to return to college.
“Our middle name is ‘Community,’ and a lot of people don’t realize just how much we offer for the community,” Miles said. “We’re not just for college-aged students. We have a lot of programs to offer to people of all ages.”
The one-hour classes begin at 9 a.m. in El Dorado and Andover, with more than 200 unique offerings.
Marion classes kick-off at 8:30 a.m. and Council Grove will begin courses at 10:30 a.m.
