Butler County deputies responded to a call at 5:14 p.m. Saturday for an accident involving a pick up truck and bicycle in the 11000 block of SW 70th, according to the report.
Upon arrival, deputies found Harvey M. Furlow, 53, of Augusta, had been driving west on SW 70th from Santa Fe Lake Road when, at the last second, he observed Katharine Wencel, 24, of Wichita, riding a bicycle on the edge of the road in front of him. Furlow said he was unable to avoid the bicyclist and struck her causing her to go into the north ditch. Furlow also stated the sun was in his eyes.
The Andover Fire Department arrived on the scene and triaged Wencel code red, serious, and medic 30 transported her to Wesley Medical Center. She had bleeding from the nose and the ears and complained of pain in the rib area.
