The Butler Community College Board of Trustees met on July 8 to discuss the construction contract change order for the 5000 Student Union building.
A change order in the amount of $150,000 has been issued for Student Union construction.
This change was suggested to correct a discrepancy between the initial contracted amount, which was $2,400,000 and the final contract amount of $2,550,000.
This amount was discussed at the September 2007 board meeting and the difference will be compensated for by using $150,000 of the $180,000 contingency fund.
This new amount will not change the total project budget.
The budget as presented in September of last year, consisted of a $2,400,000 amount for construction, a contingency fund amounting to $180,000, an architect fee of $180,000 and a furnishing budget of $400,000.
The current adjusted budget allows for $2,550,000 for construction.
Also the adjusted version includes $30,000 contingency.
The furnishings budget has been changed to $477,000.
The total project budget was $3,160,600 and has now been increased to $3,237,600.
The board approved an additional $77,000 for the furnishing budget.
Vince Haines of PKHLS Architects explained there are no outstanding construction issues that might indicate the $30,000 contingency would not be sufficient.
This change order allows for adjustment of the construction time from Aug. 1 to Sept. 15.
Weather and differences in the preliminary schedule are primary factors in this planned extension.
The change order also makes those involved aware of the difference of the new timeline and the written contract and detailed construction schedule.
