The Butler Community College Board of Trustees regular November session was held on Wednesday.

Recognitions at the meeting included employee veterans in honor of Veterans Day.

“We are priveledged and honored to recognize employees that are veterans,” said President Jackie Vietti.

Vietti read an honor roll listing all veterans who were also employees.

Certificates were also handed out to those who served the country.

“In honor of Veterans Day and your service to our country,” said Vietti presenting the certificates.
Board members Ted Albright, Ted Dankert and Ron Engelbrecht were recognized for there service in the Armed Forces as well.

Patrick Sellers was also recognized Wednesday evening for saving an individual’s life at Lake Point in Wichita.

Sellers is a student at Butler who is taking EMT classes. On Sept. 29, Sellers performed the Hymlec Manuver on a resident during a meal.

“We recognize Patrick for his heroic effort to save a life,” said Vietti. “He successfully dislodged a piece of food and saved this person’s life.”

Vietti then congratulated the Butler football players for their participation in USD 490’s PBS program.

The football players read to the kids in the district.

Among the athletes were Shelden Barnhardt, Randell Bell, Matt Bruner, Rudell Crim, Harrison Drelling, Nate Larkins, Jonathan Owens, Chance Riley, Press taylor and Coach Paige Anders.
Vietti also mentioned the success of Butler Family Weekend.

She explained that the weekend was created to help families of students feel more a part of Butler’s family.

The event was held Oct. 24 through 26 and was quite successful.

The board acknowledged and thanked Walters’ Pumpkin Patch, Red Devils, Butler Rural Electric, Prairie Bowl and Orscheln’s Farm and Home for their generous participation and involvement.

Butler’s Diversity Kansas Walk for Unity was also mentioned during the evening’s recognitions.

Many of the event’s participants were present at the meeting to receive certificates.

Next, Vietti spoke about the Susan G. Komen race for the Cure. That event was an enormous success.

Boyce, Teresa Brickness, Constance Brown, Dorothy Christesson, Cynthis Endecott, Susan Forrest, Adrian Rodriguez, Marcia Gracey, Jennifer Grant, Amanda Hagerman, Jessica Haukap, Sarah Huthcinson, Nicholas Jones, Aaron Kavishe, Ashley Kim, Samantha Kogl, Jennifer Mangum, Charles McDonald Jr., Megan McFarlane, Melissa Morris, Jennifer Nelson, William Newborn, Rich Olsson, Marci Rains, Amy Roberts, Stacie Rosiere, Kurt Salyer, Jeriann Sanchex, Lisa Santiago, Maggie Smith, Miranda Smith, Christina Stanton, Sheli Sturgeon, Karen Swihart and Brad Zrubek.
Alexis Hopkins and Phil Speary were also recognized for their participation in the Lumina Foundation for Education Grant Funds for Innovation and inquiry for Student Learning (IISL) Consortium.

The Hillsboro welding Program ribbon cutting was mentioned; Vietti thanked everyone who had a part in the project. Jim Edwards, Leann Eliis, Pauline Holub, Dustin Martin, Dennis Rittle, Mike Schweigert, David Tucker and Carter Zerbe were all recognized for their participation.

Butler’s blended learning program was congratulated.

Articles on the program have been published in “Community College Times” and “Week.”

Educare and Theresa Thompson were recognized for spurring the Prairie Land Food Project and being the official host site.

The Art Without Walls Sculpture Dedication participants were also thanked and Amy Cyphers was recognized for her exceptional customer service.

Adrian Rodriguez was awarded a certificate for the stellar development and launch of the comprehensive Student Life Initiative.

The November Great Grizzly Deed recipients were also recognized.
