Two separate motorcycle accidents injured two riders Sunday.
The first occurred at about 12:54 p.m. when Butler County Sheriff Deputies responded to a motorcycle accident on K-177 north of Cassoday at the first northbound curve on the Chase County line.
A group of motorcycles leaving Cassoday came up behind another group of motorcycles that were slowing for the curve, according to the report.
Miguel A. Soberano, 41, of Junction City, apparently lost control of his bike when officers suspect he possibly overbraked the front wheel, causing it to lock up. Soberano slid across the highway centerline into the west ditch and continued to slide for approximately another 150 feet.
Soberano was wearing a helmet but did suffer from a head injury and was transported in serious condition to Wesley Hospital in Wichita.
Deputies responded to the second accident at about 1 p.m. This accident occurred south of Latham when Byron L. Smith, 61, of Wichita, was riding his motorcycle northbound on SE Quivera Road south of Latham.
According to the report, for unknown reasons his motorcycle left the roadway, going into the ditch and through a barbed wire fence.
Smith was airlifted by LifeTeam in serious condition with multiple fracture injuries, as well as severe lacerations.
