The bridge carrying US-54 Highway over the Walnut River in east El Dorado is scheduled for repair work beginning July 7.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, the bridge will continue to carry US-54 traffic during this repair project but the bridge will be reduced to one lane of traffic, with an 11-foot maximum vehicle width restriction. The one lane of traffic crossing the bridge will be controlled by a traffic signal.

The bridge will be under construction during July and August and is scheduled to be completed and open to unrestricted traffic in early September.

The bridge repair work will consist of patching deteriorated areas, replacing expansion joints, repairing the railing, and placing a new driving surface. PCI Roads, LLC is the prime contractor for this project.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. Persons with questions about the road work or other KDOT projects can call the KDOT El Dorado Office at 320-7596 or South Central Kansas Public Affairs Manager Martin Miller at 1-877-550-5368 (toll free).
