OBITUARY - Catherine L. Kelly

Catherine L. Kelly, 59, of Newton, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Harry Hynes Hospice of Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

“Cathy” was born on Feb. 1, 1951 in Marion, the daughter of John “Jack” and Betty Herzet Kelly. She was raised in Potwin and graduated from Remmington High School in 1969. She later received her nursing degree from Wichita Area Vo-tech School.

Cathy moved from Potwin to Newton in 1973. She worked as a nurse at the Newton Medical Center and was a nurse at Asbury Park for the last 19 years.

Survivors include: her son, Jason Kelly of Newton; her mother, Betty Kelly of Wichita;  one brother, J.D. Kelly and his companion Bill Bischoff of Wichita; three sisters, Kim Wiens and husband Randy of Wellington, Jackie Berryman and husband Gilbert of Wellington, and Leslie Henline and husband Rob of Augusta; several nieces and nephews; and close friend Mary Smith of Newton.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday and the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in the Newton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A memorial has been established with Catholic Care, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
