OBITUARY: Doris Mae Newsom

Doris Mae Newsom, 87, of El Dorado, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 at Lakepoint Nursing Center, El Dorado.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Temple Baptist Church.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow the services in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

Doris was born on Aug. 12, 1922 at Vesper, Kan., the daughter of Nine and Mable (Reasoner) Brumbaugh. She spent most of her life in this area, and was a homemaker.  She graduated from El Dorado High School and attended a year of college at Butler Community College. 

She was also a substitute teacher. Doris made and sold ceramics; raised and sold tropical fish; and enjoyed going to flea markets. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

On May 9, 1943, Doris and Dub Newsom were married in El Dorado. He preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 1998.

Those who survive are: a niece, Sonya Nixon of El Dorado; sisters-in-law, Jean (Dick) Pennington of El Dorado and Doris of Andover; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Nine and Mable Brumbaugh, and a sister, Irene Pryor.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials for Temple Baptist Church which may be left with Carlson Funeral Home, who have charge of the services. Condolences to the family can be sent to www.carlsoncolonial.com.
