William Gene Cartee, of Cameron, Mo., and formerly of Maysville was born July 4, 1946 in Amity, Mo., to William and Bessie Emalene (Smith) Cartee and passed away June 25, 2009 at Missouri Veterans Home of Cameron at the age of 62.

Gene was a lifelong resident of Dekalb County where he farmed and attended Fariport Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army during Vietnam and on Feb. 23, 1968 in Maysville was married to Beverly Spalding.  To this union two children were born.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors include: two children, Aaron Cartee and wife Holly of Maysville and Julie Zirfas and husband Ron of El Dorado; one sister, Susan Grant and husband Don of Vernon, Texas; and five grandchildren, Tanner Cartee, Samuel Cartee, Cassidy Clements, Conner Zirfas and Lauren Zirfas.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Bram-Turner Funeral Home, Maysville.   Burial with full military honors in Sharp Cemetery, Amity.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Comfort Care Hospice or Missouri Veterans Home of Cameron in care of Bram-Turner Funeral Home P.O. box 350 Maysville, MO  64469.
