Marvin Ray, 75, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and a former resident of Potwin, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Hospice Care Hospital in Port Orange.
He was born July 8, 1933 in Neal, Kan., the son of E. J. and Corrine (Cochran) Ray. At an early age, he and his family moved to Potwin. He graduated from Potwin High School with the Class of ‘51.
After graduation, he worked before being drafted to serve his country. He was stationed in Germany.
When his years of duty were finished, he returned to Potwin. He worked many years for the Wheat State Phone Co., one phone installation was in the Missile Silo north of Potwin. He moved to Daytona Beach where he worked as a veterinarian’s assistant, then the motel business. He had great pride in his garden and flowers, his yard was a beauty to see.
He is survived by his best friend and care giver, Terry Gilbert; daughter, Cindy; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, all of El Dorado; sister-in-law, Lola Ray of Orlando; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert and twin Melvin; and sisters, Margaret Garrett, Betty (Dick) Whiteside and Thelma Everett.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at McGill Cemetery, Potwin. Viewing with family members will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado.
