Carlene Ann Sommers, 63, of Potwin, passed away at her residence on July 8, 2009, with her family at her side. She was born in Wichita on Sept. 17, 1945, the daughter of Carl and Alta (Phares) Duvanel. She was married to J. Keith Sommers on May 1, 1966, in rural Benton. They moved to the Potwin area to make their life together on a farm. Carlene devoted her life to her family, friends and her church. She will be remembered for her gentle kindness, strength of spirit and unwavering faith. She was met in Heaven by her parents: Carl and Alta and many aunts, uncles and friends. Survivors include: husband, Keith of Potwin; sons, Jim (Kristi) and Tom (Deandra) all of Potwin; daughter, Ginger (Jeff Bastin) of Wichita; six grandchildren, Weston, Cole, Taylor, Jarrett, Jacob and Kara; and brothers, Frank (Janet) Duvanel of Benton and Larry (Judy) Duvanel of Phoenix, Ariz. Family will greet friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday at Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater. Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Potwin Christian Church. Interment will be in the Potwin Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established with the Potwin Christian Church-Ponca Bible Camp in care of Lamb Funeral Home, PO Box 358, Whitewater, KS 67154.
