OBITUARY - Gary R. Koontz

Gary R. Koontz, 70, of Haven, died March 8, 2010, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 31, 1940 in Hutchinson, the son of Asa and Doris Wilhite Koontz. He was a graduate of Haven High School, Hutchinson Community College and Kansa State University with a degree in geology.  He had worked for KDOT as chief geologist, retiring after 38 years. He was a member of the Medora Community Bible Church, Medora. On April 12, 1969 he was married to Jane Stalcup at Haven. She survives.

Other survivors include: his three sons, Craig R. of Manhattan, Dr. Bret A. (Wendy) of El Dorado and Mark J. (Jamie) of El Dorado; six grandchildren, Aubrey, Emily, Zachary, Haley, Kelsey and Braden; and one brother, Dean of Keystone, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Philip Dean.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., today at Ott Funeral Home, Haven.

Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Medora Community Bible Church, Medora, with Pastor Dan Ells presiding. Private burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mt. Hope.
