Charlene Yvonne Van Meter Blaine, 73, of Olympia, Wash., and formerly of El Dorado, died Friday, March 12, 2010 at St. Peter Hospital in East Olympia, Wash. Charlene was the oldest of five children of Charles and Edna (Fischer) Van Meter. Charlene grew up in El Dorado and was married to Fred B. Blaine, also of El Dorado, on Feb. 8, 1954. Charlene and Fred had two children, Brent B. Blaine of Keller, Texas, and Connie Hickman of McCleary, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Kelly, Nicholas, Amy and Jesse. Fred and Charlene ran Fred’s Drive-In in the 1800 block of West Central in El Dorado until 1995 when Fred passed away. Charlene moved to Washington in 1998 to care for her mother and remained there until her death. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Edna; her husband, Fred; and sister, Cherie Dietz. Charlene is survived by her sisters, Cynthia Hedwall of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cheryl Talmage of Rochester, Wash.; brother, Terry Van Mater of Tumwater, Wash.; her children; and grandchildren. Charlene had been a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of El Dorado before moving to Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Olympia and at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31 at the Grace Lutheran Church in El Dorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church of El Dorado.
