OBITUARY - John S. Egan, Jr.

John S. Egan, Jr., of El Dorado, died Wednesday at his home in El Dorado. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church. The Recitation of the Rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday evening, also at the church. Graveside honors will be held by the United States Marine Corps in the Towanda Cemetery.

John was born Sept. 28, 1931 in Ft. Smith, Ark., the son of John S. and Flora Bollinger Egan. He grew up in Sapulpa, Okla., and graduated from high school. He also attended Northeastern University and Oklahoma State University. On June 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to Kay Faulkner in Sapulpa. He came to Towanda in 1976 where he farmed.  He was active in his community and served as a past president of USD 375 and was a member of the Lion’s Club. He was active in Boy Scouts of America, having received his Eagle Award and in later years served as a scoutmaster. During the Korean War he served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Surviving family include: his wife, Kay of the home; sons, Mike and wife Ellen Egan, Chris Egan, Pete and wife Laura Egan, Pat and wife Johnna Egan, Paul and wife Toni Egan, and Mark Egan; daughters, Anne and  husband Steve Clair, Carol and husband Brian Dunne, and Mary Egan; brother, Pete Egan; and 17 grandchildren. A daughter, Sara Kathleen Egan, preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established  as the John S. Egan scholarship Fund for a graduate of Circle High School. Contributions may be left with the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, El Dorado. Please share a memory at www.kirbymorrisfuneralhome.com.
