Maynard L. Church, 81, of El Dorado, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carlson Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be on Monday evening from 6 to 7:30, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow the services in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
He was born on Jan. 30, 1928 at Clark, Neb., the son of Rolland and Melvina (Stockdale) Church. Maynard made his home in El Dorado for many years and served in the US Air Force. He met Anna Marie Wamser in Germany. They were married on May 5, 1948 in Nuremberg, Germany. He owned and operated Maynard Wholesale Bait and Tackle for 55 years. He was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church; VFW; American Legion; and served on the National Republican Congressional Committee. He liked to hunt and fish and cared about his work where he spent many hours.
He leaves his wife Anna Marie (Ritschi) of the home; his children and their spouses, Anna Marie and Mike Hamm of El Dorado, Rolland L. and Judy Church of Wichita, Dianna and Kent Harms of El Dorado; three sisters, Beverly Lehr and Pauline Osborne both of El Dorado and Norma Jean Schaffer of Sherman, Texas; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rolland; his mother, Melvina Kimberly (Stockdale) Church; and brothers, Orval, Rolland, Jr. and Thomas.
