Differences between Moran, Tiahrt campaign

Before I started managing Todd Tiahrt’s campaigns in 2001, I managed Jerry Moran’s first Congressional campaign in 1996. There are few people who have a better perspective on the differences between the two candidates for U.S. Senate than I.

Congressman Moran is a nice man, and he has a great family. However, having seen both men under pressure and watching how they approach their jobs, I know Kansans and conservatives across the country need Todd Tiahrt in the U.S. Senate.

Congressman Moran tries to avoid confrontation, which is seen as a virtue by many. He is great at building relationships and making you feel good about yourself. He has been masterful in laying out a political career that began when he started attending Republican events as a youth. He was recently re-elected in the 2008 general election with 91 percent of the vote. If our economy was robust, we were not involved in a war on terrorism and abortion was illegal, Congressman Moran would be a “safe” choice for Senate.

Unfortunately, our country is headed in the wrong direction under the leadership of President Obama, who Congressman Moran said was “easier to work with than President George Bush.”

Our country needs bold leadership from someone who isn’t afraid of making his colleagues and liberal constituents mad. Todd Tiahrt will never be re-elected with 91 percent of the vote because he will upset the unions, the radical environmentalists and those who think the government knows how to spend your money better than you.

Todd will fight for conservative values because that’s who he is and always has been.

We need a fighter who is more concerned about your future than his.

The day of the historic vote on the government takeover of our health care system offers a perfect example of the primary difference between Todd and his opponent. While Todd was focusing all of his energy that day on fighting against the Obama/Pelosi scheme by preparing parliamentary inquiries and other floor strategies to prolong or stop the vote, Congressman Moran produced a radio spot, filmed a campaign video and sent out a fundraising solicitation.

Todd was focused on stopping Obama while Congressman Moran was focused on advancing his political career.

There are other differences between these two men.

Looking at the national conservative scorecards, you will see Todd holds a lifetime lead in all of the major ones, including the American Conservative Union, Club for Growth and Citizens Against Government Waste.

Even though these scorecards show Todd as the consistent conservative, they still cannot measure the fight in each of these men.

That’s where you need to look at their records.

There are “Tiahrt Amendments” that have protected the unborn, secured your Second Amendment rights and prevented the government from destroying the U.S. cattle industry. There are no comparable “Moran Amendments.”

While Todd Tiahrt was fighting for U.S. jobs by getting the Pentagon to re-bid the air refueling tanker contract originally awarded to a foreign company, Congressman Moran voted against 2,000 Kansas jobs to score political points in this Senate race.

Several new Republicans will go to the Senate in 2011. We need fewer compromisers and more fighters like Marco Rubio, Pat Toomey and Todd Tiahrt or things won’t be much better than they are now.

Please join me in supporting Todd Tiahrt for the United States Senate.
