Dear Editor,

I would like to publicly thank the El Dorado School District for their decision to hold a Numana packaging event at the El Dorado High School on Wednesday, May 12.  I have two children, Jake, a sixth grader at EMS and Channing, a fourth grader at Grandview, who both got to participate in the event. The first thing discussed in our home after work was what a great time they had, how many "packages" each of their teams packed and how many meals they had made for the people of Haiti. My daughter was telling us what Mrs. Givens told them about her decision to "reward" the kids for their efforts in the state testing process. She explained she could have given the kids a certificate which might go in their scrapbook, a candy bar which they would eat probably before getting home from school or the reward of helping others in need which would give them a memory that will last a lifetime. I know my children, and I know the impact this small activity made in their lives. Thank you for the "education" that our schools provide our children. It's not just about the 3 "Rs" anymore, there's a lot more to life these days, and our children are lucky to have these experiences provided to them.
Sincerely,

Gene Kimble,
