I entered El Dorado JUCO
In “45” and I left in “46”
One of my classes
Was English Lit.
Taught by Miss Bradford
Many years ago
Seems like yesterday
Some things you can’t let go.
I found out right away
What she expected of me
I fell behind
Right away I could see
You’d better pay attention
And keep up with the
assignment
If you daydreamed
You were in for admonishment.
I left in “46” to
Serve Uncle Sam
And after a couple years
I entered JUCO once again
I was taking English
Lit, no fear
I was ready to study
No more daydreaming for me
And to write essay’s
Was easy as could be.
On many of my essays
Was a note in red
“Very good Monte”
This is what it said.
After graduation
And a decade or two
I wrote to Miss Bradford
And our acquaintance
I did renew.
We wrote for several years
Until she move to Arkansas
Then the letters were fewer
And then not at all.
I found in the El Dorado
Times
That this great lady has
passed on
Probably teaching Angels
English Lit. In the
Great Beyond.
Funny how some teachers
Are easy to recall
Miss Bradford, for me
Is the easiest of them all.
I’ll miss your letters
But I understand
You’re in the hands of
“God”
In the Promised Land.
