Kansas has an opportunity to elect a strong attorney general. Derek Schmidt has extensive experience in nearly all fields of law including working as assistant attorney general specializing in consumer protection. His skill as a legislator particularly as senate majority leader will be a big help in getting needed laws passed, changed or deleted.
Some of Sen. Schmidt's legislative leadership has been expressed in writing legislation and supporting the following actions:
1. Fighting methamphetamine.
2. Stopping sex offenders: Derek wrote the Senate version of Jessica's Law, which puts ex-offenders who prey on children where they belong – in prison for life.
3. Protecting agriculture and safeguarding our food supply.
4. Opposing frivolous lawsuits.
5. Protecting funeral privacy.
6. Safeguarding property rights.
7. Fighting child pornography.
8. Supporting pro-life positions.
He is also a strong supporter of the second amendment. He's urging the federal government to enforce current immigration laws, he supports the death penalty, consumer protection and state support of education.
