Yes, I firmly believe in freedom of speech

Written in response to “I applaud those attending TEA parties,” which appeared April 23.

I was appalled to read the article regarding the recent Tea Party in El Dorado, and those held across the county. Yes, I firmly believe in freedom of speech, and this was an act of that. However, the article states, “The difference between the TEA parties and the multitude of left-wing demonstrations is there was no vandalism, no cars overturned or set on fire, no bricks thrown through windows, no assault on law enforcement officers.”
This is untrue and ridiculous at best. I would love to know when and where any left-wing demonstrations have resulted in such acts.
As a proud member of the “left-wing,” I have traveled across the state to many activities and never once took part in any brick throwing, vandalism or assault on police officers, nor have I ever seen any occur. The only violence I have witnessed is when Pro-Life organizations shoved signs in my face and called me horrible names. I was 8 months pregnant at the time, and I was told that my child would be part of “Satan’s Army” due to my political affiliation. Did I retaliate? No. I stood silent, which granted was difficult for me, as did the rest of our large crowd, despite the attacks and hateful words. Believe it or not, Democrats, left-wingers, or whatever you may call them, are peaceful people, who care about working-class families, our environment, and yes, taxation.
I would also like to add that the elected officials who spoke out against tax increases are those who are in charge of our state and local government. In Kansas, Republicans are the majority, so any tax increases are due to their votes. They need to be held accountable.

Sincerely,
